XY will switch on the television and Astro herself after getting permission from us. Her favourite channels are Playhouse Disney and Nickelodeon. I only let her watch those educational ones. Sometimes she’ll surf the tv, checking out what’s showing on the other cartoon channels. She’s very familiar with channels 60, 61 and 63. She also likes to change channels for us. When we tell her it’s our turn to watch, she’ll quickly ask us what number to press.
Now with the new 3-digit channel numbers, she’s not able to change the channels herself. I don’t intend to tell her the new numbers, so she can only watch what I’ve switched on for her. But I think it’s just a matter of time before she realise the new number. Can’t fool kids easily these days, right?
One good thing about the new numbers is that when CE plays with the Astro remote (yeah... every kid's favourite toy), he won’t change our channels so easily. He used to play with it and when he simply pressed a number, we’ll be watching some foreign show.
However, the new 3-digit numbers are a little troublesome as we’ve to press 3 numbers in a sequence and it must be done fast. If the remote is not pointed directly at the decoder or if we’re a little slow (at times fingers a bit ‘cacat’ mah), sometimes it takes up to 5 tries just to get it right. And there’s a whole lot of numbers to remember now. Guess we just need to get used to it. In time, we'll be experts at surfing the Astro channels again. ;)

ya, i so let Ian watched playhouse disney only but i was stupid the other day, by telling him now its ch 613.. then only i realised i made a huge mistake. its a gd time to stop him fr watching too much, now i think i have to hv password protected ..
I don't have Astro, and I put all the forbidden DVDs/VCDs in a drawer Zara cannot opened easily, so she can only watch the shows I let her watch.. Haha.
luckily en en still don't know about pressing the numbers but she loves to use remote control and like CE... we suddenly watch foreign movie. She also loves others remote control such as for fan or DVD player. She just know which one to point to...
hi, my first time here; cruised in from sasha's blog. your kids are so cute and funny! i totally agree with you about the whole 3-digit thing having its good and bad points (the kids in our house are having difficulties changing the channels too. yay!).. but i have yet to memorize the channel numbers myself. hehe.
I regretted telling Des the new numbers to Disney's channel too. I tried to press 63 and told her the channel's cancelled oredi but she'll tell me "it's 613, mommy" .... ish ....
I'm still not used to the new numbers cos I was so used to pressing the '+' sign to go to the next channel, so whenever I press the '+' sign, it's not the channel I want .... sigh .... The only channel I can remember very well is Channel 311 (hahaha).
I think i m the only house without Astro until today :))))
I'm also facing a tough time memorizing the new 3-digit channels. Each time I want to switch to my favorite channels, I hv to press 100 to check the new numbers. And the pointing of the remote control is also driving me nuts. Sometimes I even hv to sit in fron of the tv to switch channels. So troublesome!
Wen, it's just a matter of time b4 Ian realises the new no. So the best method to ctrl his tv time is wat u've said... password protect it.
ZMM, Zara will soon figure out how to open it. She's a vy smart girl! ;)
Sharine, it's a fact. Kids love remote ctrls. :)
Babybooned, thx for dropping by. I'm sure in no time, we'll be experts again. hehehe
Tracy, no way u can trick Des. :D Ya lor, Astro reshuffled the channels too so they don't follow the old sequence/category.
Chin Nee, if u don't watch much tv, no point getting it. They're too money-minded these days.
Shireen, yup.. vy troublesome! Wat's the use of a remote ctrl then? Just a thot, maybe battery is low?
