Toothbrush Upgrade

~ new toothbrush ~

I started using a toothbrush to brush CE's teeth today. Not using toothpaste coz he doesn't know how to spit it out. Before this, I was using the finger toothbrush. But recently, he doesn't like to brush his teeth. So we're quite slack in his dental care for quite some time now.

I bought the Kodomo toothbrush (for age 6 months - 3 years) for CE. XY's also using the same brand but for different age group. So they look very similar, just of different colours - pink for XY (obviously) and blue for didi.

He was quite happy to brush his teeth when I gave him the toothbrush. I suppose he likes to imitate us. He didn't want me to help and wants to brush on his own. Well, he was playing more than brushing - biting, sucking and tasting it. And he didn't want to give it back. It was difficult to help him coz he was holding it too tightly and he didn't follow my movement. When we're done brushing, I doubt his teeth are very clean, but better than not brushing at all, right?

Then I tried to let him gargle. Gave him a cup of tap water, he took a sip but swallowed it when I asked him to 'phooi!'. So I demonstrated for him. And I let him try again. And he swallowed the water again! I think I'd better let him try with cooked water next time. Let's see how long his fascination with the new toothbrush will last.

For the first few times, my son too swallowed the water. After that, he got the hang of it. I guess the toothpaste is too yucky to swallow and he ended up automatically spitting it out after that!

Oh! So cute! I think soon he will learn to "Phooi" the water out. Just make sure he won't make your shirts wet at that time. :)

And, to return your favor, I've got tag for you too. hehe......

i passed that stage with my kids edi liao. u can go pharmacy buy the toothpaste for bb. it has some kind of fruit ingredient in it and it is safe it accidently swallowed. Iris used to use that when first started using toddler's toothbrush

Ethan upgraded himself from kiddy toothbrush to adult toothbrush. When I gave him his brush he said 'no' and asked for mine.

For toothpaste, I have been using First Teeth. Can be swallowed coz it's made of milk enzyme.

Anyway, it's still quite a task to brush his teeth. Sometimes, he refuses to let us brush his teeth.

aiyo, swallow again & again....tap water ahh?? ya, for the start, u should give him drinkable water!!

it will take time for him to get over the 'play' with toothbrush.

once he is bore already, u can take over the brushing to ensure a clean work....

I am still using the baby toothpaste for Keith eventhough he's already above 3. He still swallow the toothpaste once in awhile. He knows how to spit the water out after brushing but intend to change the toothpaste once he's really used with the spitting after brushing.

I started with drinking water for my children and switch to pipe water when they know how to spit out.

Ginnie, I saw some of your comments in several blogs and I think we both have many things in common and I mean many.

When I first started my gals to brush their teeth, I bought them First Teeth toothpaste (expensive but is edible and taste good too!). I also used boiled water to let them gargle coz they tend to swallow the water very often. Both my gals hated the finger toothbrush. I find using a wet hanky to wipe their teeth and tongue cleaner.
