Toothpaste Usage

Thank you Mommies, for all your comments about the use of toothpaste in my previous post. Seemed like most of you have used First Teeth toothpaste. XY used this brand too when she was first introduced to toothpaste. I didn't let CE try that coz I don't feel comfortable with him swallowing so much of it, although it's supposed to be edible. A few gulps once in awhile, I guess it's safe. But the whole thing every time he brushes his teeth? I'm a bit skeptical. After all, it's still toothpaste, not food. LOL That's why I'm waiting for him to be able to spit out the water first before introducing toothpaste.

It's been almost a week that I've taught him to spit out the water after gargling, but he's still drinking it. Since I'm using boiled water, he can drink all he wants. I think after a few weeks of trying, if he still doesn't get the idea of spitting, I'll get him First Teeth toothpaste. Hopefully he'll think that it's yucky and spit it out. If he thinks it tastes good (and swallow it all the time), then I guess I'll have to postpone the use of toothpaste. Not an issue I'm sure, as they're only milk teeth.

My boy also swallow all the water after I tell him so many times to spit out. But then for the toothpaste he also swallow it too. Wah must really take time to teach him how to brush his teeth. For Le-Ann I've got no problem leh .

actually, you've got my 100% support here. i've started brushing gib's teeth with the finger toothbrush (still tak berani with normal toothbrush! Hehehe!), but i feel the same way; no toothpaste till he knows how to spit it out. i'm trying to teach gib now but of course it hasnt been successful yet! and i also agree that it's no biggie coz they're milk teeth.. as long as we still brush everyday ;)

Wen, yup, clean w/o toothpaste, better than not cleaning at all. ;)

Joanne, that's wat I'm worried abt. If he likes it, he may continue to swallow it. Anyway, will c how it goes. Thx!

Sue, ya lor.. I don't rmbr having any difficulties with XY too.

Babybooned, if he's fine with the finger toothbrush, jes continue with that. I personally feel that the finger one is more hygenic than normal toothbrush. No food/dirt can hide in btw the bristles.

Jac, u hv to start monitoring if their permanent teeth are coming out. These days, they come out vy early!
