Wrong Ratio

When I read LittleLamb's post about Philip accepting the new milk (Enfagrow), it suddenly hit me that I've been giving the wrong milk powder and water ratio to CE. I immediately checked the instructions on the box (650g) - add 4 scoops of milk powder to 6.4 ozs of water. As I still have the old 1.8kg tin (used it to store coffee powder), I checked that as well. It was 4 scoops of milk powder to 8 ozs of water.

Ooops! I didn't realise they've decreased the amount of water. When did they change the mixing instructions? Since they introduced the new packaging? Oh dear, which means I've been giving CE diluted milk since then. But better diluted than too thick, I suppose. Anyone as 'oo long' (careless) as me? :p

Luckily you found out.

Actually why I very concern about it because when Philip was first introduced to Enfalac, 2 person scolded me. First was Sunway Medical Paed (Dr L**) and another is MJ rep. They reminded me thousands time I cannot *SIMPLY* dilute or thicken the milk to my wish. They say it will cause our organs to be dysfunction la..blah blah.. aiyo, long story. maybe i will blog it.

Anyway, since u all along give 8 oz, instead of reducing water, u add 1 more scoop to 8.5oz-5 scoop lor..heheheeh just idea la..

Why the 'bancuhan' so funny one..haha..6.4ozs -> 4scoops. After MJ changed to the new packaging, alot of mummies commented bout the new 'bancuhan' in the forum. At first I wanted to give my girl Enfagrow but the 'bancuhan' is confusinglah. My girl is drinking Abbott's Gain PLus EyeQ and Pediasure.

i notice the change in preparation but i still stick to the old instruction..cos no harm taking in more fluid...in anycase, it is only marginally more water...not a bad thing...hence my kids dont have constipation problem...and they have sufficient intake of nutrients anyway...heehee

I recall when I changed from Promil to Progress, I was too bz with work then and it slipped my mind to check the ratio...only realised a few weeks later I had given him too little milk powder. No wonder he did look kinda skinnier...hmm...also, u know how when kids get constipation, the older generation would dilute their milk concentration. Add more water...my paed said shouldn't do that...forgot what was the reason tho'.

Rachel, yeah, if wanna give him the same amt of water, gotta add 1 more scoop. But no need lah, more scoops means milk powder will finish faster. hahaha As it is, he's taking 1 pkt (650g) per wk.

Mummy Gwen, I've not gone into their forum for a vy long time edi.

ContentedMom, but some paeds said it's not good to dilute the milk wor.

Yatie, sometimes still ok. I've been doing that for mths. :-/

Juana, luckily it was oni for a few wks.

Siew Ting, I guess better late than nvr. :D

Irene, maybe u need to add a lil more water, since u're adding in cereal too.

Hui Sia, a lot of 'experts' said not advisable to dilute but our kids hv been drinking for so long edi, shld be ok hor.

Fussy mum, I'm vy tempted to chg to other brands, which doesn't keep on increasing their price. :p

Jazz, aiyaya... but hey, I've found an 'oo long' fren. hehehe

Wen, u're vy alert. ;)

U know what...i came home n check again...
On the tin, it says 6.4oz or 190 ml hor.. then I check the milk bottle, 6.4 oz does not equal to 190 ml...
what la this MJ.. only know how to suck blood only.

haha you're so funny lah. Surprisingly I'm rather sharp when it came to stuff like this cos when Bryan was young, we didn't know he was CMPA so we kept switching brands cos he was purging. So for each new brand we tried, I had to read very carefully how many scoops to how many ozs of water. Since then, I continued to read.

hahaha it's happened to me before too! good thing it was diluted and not over-concentrated yeah?

slavemom said...

Rachel, correct wor. 6.4 oz is approx 190ml. Wat btl do u use?

Paik Ling, it nvr occured to me to chk coz it's the same milk, not a new brand or new range.

BabyBooned, yup, otherwise we'd be wondering why that lil fella's suddenly having constipation prob.
