We went to Popular with the intention to buy a Malay (BM) dictionary for XY. I was looking through the BM-English, English-BM dictionary from Oxford and Longman. Decided on Oxford as it seemed more comprehensive. The one I was holding was already unwrapped. So I chose the nicest new one (wrapped in transparent paper) I can find.
As I don't have the member card, I wanted to apply on the spot. But for the Student Membership (the cheapest rate), I need to show XY's student card, which of course I didn't have it with me (who'd carry that around?). In fact, I'm wondering what I should bring the next time I want to apply for the membership card. Will they accept the registration letter from the school?
At the payment counter, the lady in front of me was very kind to allow me to use her card. Otherwise I won't be entitled to any discounts. Then later, I realised the cashier didn't give me the appropriate discount. Luckily we're still inside the bookshop. After asking the relevant person and getting the more senior guy to make the adjustments, I got back RM1.50. Yup, we waited an extra 10 minutes just for that small amount. Needless to say, hubby gave me THAT look. hahaha
And after all that trouble, I actually bought the WRONG book. I took the English-English-BM one. The covers are all so similar, that's my excuse. Sigh... not sure if I can change it but anyway, the shop is not near where we stay. And since I may need to get another one, can you recommend any good BM dictionary (with explanations in English) that's suitable for primary school level?
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go bang my head on the wall... again.

Hehehe...my hubby will also give me that look if I do that.
I also got the Oxford BM->Eng, Eng->BM. I got it from the school. You can take it back to change it but don't leave it too long.
Haha...women. :D You should go back and exchange it when you still have time.
Sorry, I can't help but laugh at this post!!!! hahahahhaha
These things happen lah
during my school days, anything deal with BM, we will go for dewan bahasa coz that's where the 'language' come from. I have both the BM to BM distionary, and they call it the dwi-bahasa (BM-English-BM) ones.
that day i waited nearly 20 mins to get back 50 cents. That was my first time ever doing such thing and my hub was surprised cos normally I'll give him THAT look when he go and wait for the difference. hehe
Poor you... but I'm sure they will exchange the dic for you! I have been away from school for a long long time, so I'm sorry that I can't recommend any good dic for you (perhaps until my girl go to school...lol). Anyway, personally I'll still go for Oxford! ;)
That was really, really generous of the lady in front of you to let you use her card. That kind of act of kindess is not given a lot nowadays. LOL... and you bought the wrong book, don't you just hate that when it happens? I get so frustrated when it happens to me especially if the store is so far away.
I'm the same, I'll wait too :-). And my hubby will give me THAT look too. And buying the wrong book sounds like me too... hahaha!
Don't lah bang your head on the wall, this thing always happen to a mother, always have too much to think of. I think you should try going back to exchange it.
I hate it when they give wrong discounts or they overcharge me for something. Jusco always does that to me!!! Too frequent for my liking :(
If I'm you, I'll go get an exchange...Sorry I can't recommend a dictionary yet...coz I haven't bought one for SP yet. Need to check with you then :)
