Extracurricular Activities

Yay! XY has finished her exam already. Thank you all for your good luck wishes. I think she'll get very good results this round. Wah... this mommy so confident ah? You know why? Coz she told me when she passed up her papers, her teachers pointed out her mistakes and she changed the answers. I think one teacher even told her the answer. :-| I guess exam at kindy level is just a formality. Not with the intention to measure the children academically, which is fine with me. I think the important thing is to find out if they understand what's being taught in class.

She has quit her ballet lessons already. She told me last month that she doesn't want to learn ballet anymore. Her reason -- it's not fun anymore. I spoke to her teacher and she said XY's doing fine in class. She can follow the instructions and lessons. But maybe because she's now in Primary level, the exercises are tougher and the class is more serious. Not like in Pre-primary where they have story-telling and pretend-play.

As we have a month's deposit with the centre, I let her continue this month (October), with the hope that she'll change her mind. But she's just looking forward to finish the 4 classes. So we decided to let her skip the last 2 classes. Don't see a point in sending her there just because we've paid for it. It's a pity she's stopping now (and a waste of money too) but it's pointless to force her if she's lost interest in it. Anyway, she can continue later if she develops the interest again.

She'll be attending a trial class for I-Clay (something like play dough) this afternoon. If she wants to continue (I think she'll love this), we'll enrol her in this class. And I'm also thinking of sending her for swimming lessons. At least some activities to look forward to during the coming long school break.

I paid my little gal's next year school fee (1st term). I also enrol her in dancing class which I believe she would enjoy it as she loves dancing. They also have English and Chinese extra classes but I dont think it is necessary for time being. I dont want to pressure her too much and for now, I let her enjoy her dancing class.

Aiyo, why suddenly dun like ballet? The teacher step on her little toes? Nvm la. Expose her in a variety of activities. Let them try what they like. Swimming is good...and i-clay sounds like great fun. Holiday mood edi right?

I know what you mean when you mention about kindy exam. Got the same experience too.

The clay lesson sounds fun and swimming would be good too. If she likes dancing, you can opt for other children dance like jazz, hip hop, etc.

When I read that your girl give up ballet because of no fun.. I recalled back the reason that I gave my mum last time: " I don't like my ballet teacher (coz they changed it), the male teacher looked so weird in his ballet outfit!" Hahaha! Now, I do feel regret that I quit because of that reason :P

So you can take a breath & relax now... yeah get XY enrolled into some activities is good for her so that she won't feel boring in the long school break!

yeah i bet she did GREAT in her exams...she is one smart girl!

ohhh why did she quit ballet? i always hv this dream to be a ballerina...but couldn't afford to go for ballet classes during my childhood days...and i was so looking forward to send my daughter but hubby not to keen...

anyway, if she is not interested then perhaps no point sending her to the classes anymore...

i thk she will get hooked to swimming soon :-)

Yes, no point forcing her to learn something that she has no interest in anymore. The same with Alycia. Alycia now loves her swimming lessons. It's been a few months already and she's still loving every moment of it. She now tells me that she wants to be a competitive swimmer when she grows up!

Way to Go Mommy!
Listening to your child's wishes is THE right thing to do!!
*wink*
'cos 'forcing' will never reap happiness and growth....

seems that she has quite a number of enrichment classes...well, as long as she enjoys them and does not find it a chore

Rachel, yeah, they learn to make basic shapes, then put them together to make something. I think jes let her learn the basics, then can do on her own (at home) coz it's all abt creativity.

Irene, not that kind of clay lah. :D This is like play dough.

Jo, for now, she doesn't want to learn any other dance wor. Sigh... my "5-min hot" type girl.

Jac, she doesn't wanna learn piano leh. And yup, that's the same reason y we send her for i-Clay class. :p

Contentedmom, at the moment, oni 1. If later she takes up swimming, then 2. Yeah... oni if she enjoys them n dun feel too tired with the activities.
